Sinopsis:
Environmental management in the Maluku Islands is an urgent issue, as this resource-rich archipelago faces serious degradation from anthropogenic activities and natural disasters. Deforestation due to nickel mining on Obi and Weda Islands, flooding and landslides in Ambon and Ternate, rising land surface temperatures in urban areas, and settlement expansion in eruption-prone zones around Mount Gamalama threaten ecosystems and local livelihoods. This book emerges from a deep concern to provide data-driven spatial solutions for these geoecological challenges.
GIS-based spatio-temporal analysis forms the backbone of this work, utilizing Landsat satellite Imagery from 1995-2025 processed through Google Earth Engine, ArcGIS Pro, and QGIS. Machine learning models such as Maximum Entropy and Random Forest are employed to map changes in vegetation index (NDVI), land surface temperature (LST), land cover classification, deforestation, and flood-landslide vulnerability across four strategic locations.
